1994 Ford Escort RS Cosworth

This is one of the hottest hatches of them all. The Escort RS Cosworth has a 227 bhp turbocharged engine and all-wheel-drive, making it a successful rally car. It was produced from 1992 through early 1996, and the '94-'95 models have been approved for importation to the US. This car was imported by Sun International, the same company who brought over the Lotus featured here Friday.

This 1994 model has the distinctive high rear spoiler and a very cool set of OZ Racing rally wheels. The interior looks to be in very good condition and it only has about 50,000 miles. There were only 7,145 vehicles produced from '92-'96, and they are extremely rare in the US.

This car has had some performance upgrades, but the ad describes the car in "daily-driver condition." It definitely would be a fun way to get around, and could handly just about any weather conditions. The seller is honest in mentioning that this car could be difficult to maintain, register, and insure, something buyers should always be aware of when purchasing a grey market car.

This car is available on eBay in Portland, OR. With just over one day to go the bids are around $10,000, and the reserve is not yet met.

  1. Always loved the Escort RS Cosworth, an amazing car for its time. I remember when first released in the UK they commanded serious levels of money for insurance, most were either driven past there limits or were a magnet for car thieves.

I have seen some nice examples in the US for $30~40k+ which is hard to believe. In one hand, its a cult car, an icon of the 90's, but over in the US, to most its just a funny European car with an Escort badge. Still, I guess its the premium you pay to drive something unique!
