Euro-Spec Citroen ID20

I was watching a movie last night in which a character drove a Euro-spec Citroen DS. I think it's a very interesting car and one that you don't often see in the States. It was offered here from 1956 to 1972, but it didn't have the signature covered, turning headlights of the European model ('67-onwards), as they were outlawed in the US at the same time as the feature was introduced. Here is a "downmarket" version, the ID20, in original European specification for sale in Washington state.

The ID differed from the more expensive DS by its more traditional transmission and clutch, as well as the lack of power steering. The DS used extensive hydraulic systems to control these features, but both the ID and DS have self-leveling hydropneumatic suspensions. The ID20 also had a less-powerful, 78 HP engine. The seller describes the car as "in good running condition, [with] no mechanical or suspension problems." It would stand to reason that an ID would be an easier car to maintain than the more complicated DS. They have exactly the same space-age look.

To differentiate the Euro cars from their US counterparts, the obvious cue is the covered headlights that turn with the steering wheel, though this can be retrofit on American cars. Less likely to be changed are the tail lights, which were round on US models. Some US cars also have different side marker lights.

This car is listed on eBay for a short time longer with bidding up to $6100 and the reserve not met. The seller prefers phone contact over email, and he can be reached at 206-334-7729.

UPDATE: This car sold for $8,900 after 10 bids. A great buy for a very unique car.
